MALABAR NAVAL EXERCISE 2020
Peace
can be maintained by the powerful, not by the weak ones. That is why it is
imperative to flex muscles and show it to the world that we have the
capabilities to retaliate should it be needed. In this context the MALABAR
exercise is relevant. We need to know about it.
Exercise
Malabar at present is a quadrilateral naval exercise involving India, the
United States, Australia, and Japan.
It began in 1992 as a
bilateral exercise between India and the United States. Japan became a
permanent partner in 2015. A past non-permanent participant was Singapore.
The annual Malabar series began in 1992 and includes diverse activities,
ranging from fighter combat operations from aircraft carriers through Maritime
Interdiction Operations Exercises.
The year 2020 will be the 24th edition of the Malabar exercise. It is planned in two phases.
Phase-I is from November 3 to 6 near the coast of Visakhapatnam in the Bay
of Bengal by Indian Navy (IN), United States Navy (USN), Japan Maritime
Self Defence Force (JMSDF), and Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The Phase-II is
from November 17 to 20 in the Arabian Sea.
