Turbulence to bring Order

Turbulence to bring Order

Dr. Manoj Kumar Patel

He came altogether from a different background. His experience in his new role was minimal. When he was made the site in-charge, the unit was filled and burdened with excess manpower, low productivity, go slow practices in manufacturing shop floors, union leaders were staying away from duty, and his predecessors were selfish administrators. In the process, the manufacturing works had become a place of time to pass at the cost of its very survival. Products in the export consignments were failing to perform. But everybody was oblivious to problems which could have been tackled into to keep the unit in the path of development, productivity, peace and prosperity. Predecessors are termed to be oblivious to issues because no signs of improvements were seen for years. When he observed and analyzed the situation the dilemma was: either to systematically shut down the unit or make his do or die effort to bring it back to its glory.

He did not have too many supporters to implement the second, but the right, option. In the first place the fishermen (old managers) wanted murky water to continue so that they can catch fishes as usual. Transparent and clear water was sure to bring an end to their ill-planned sources of income as well as to their comfort zones. The first option was easy because the apex and owners had no interest to keep a sick organization alive at the cost of losing their own investments. However, he could convince the owners to give him a time of about 2 years soon after which, based on the hard facts and results, the owners will take the final decision to run the organization or take a decision otherwise. It was agreed upon.
So, the challenge has started and he was to reflect implementations of his plans. See the challenge and his selflessness which are manifested in the forms of:

a)      Putting his own comfort life into difficult zone. He simply could have suggested to close down the unit and gone back to his original place of work. This, after all was the wish and directive given to him by the owner on his taking over.

b)     He initiated process of data compilation. It was a tough job to compile data for last 20 years. He did it and then called meetings of managers and heads of departments and explained the path of downfall, in terms of losses (forget earnings), that the organization is going through. He made them realize that the organization will see a closure unless corrective actions are taken now (or never). He spent 15 – 18 hours time in his office and residence doing all these things. He could do a small change in mindset with a few of managers and small group of heads. That was the only silver lining in the dark cloud. He was happy and encouraged by that.

c)      Compiled data were put into proper formats and the same were explained to the Union leaders. The purpose was that once they understand the reality of the grim situation they will support him in the mending process to revive the unit. Some supports from some of the unions were available. He was satisfied with that.

d)     He re-prepared the production and productivity plans. Either the production and productivity were to go substantially high or manpower was to be pruned proportionately.

e)      The manpower pruning was unlimited both to the levels of management cadre and non-management cadre. There was huge unrest by workers. This unrest was fuelled by some selfish management staff for few basic reasons. They wanted the new incumbent to fail in his endeavor, they wanted to hide their continual inefficiencies over the years for which the organization had slid to the downward path and the third one was they wanted sadistic pleasure.
The labor unrest was the one to be seen. Workmen made threatening. They
shouted slogans against him. They made his life difficult. His opponents came in the guises of friends and suggested him to refrain from taking these drastic measures. Few even told that he is not the son of the soil and his intents are to spoil the land. But he was unfazed. Because by that time he was determined to end the inefficiencies in the system that was damaging the industry at large. He had also realized by now that it is only a corrupt few who are putting the entire organization at stake and peril.

f)       Production and productivity went abysmally low. Workmen cursed him. Majority of the people attached to that particular industry tried to equate him with Ravana the Villain.

For a while it appeared even to the owner that maybe they did a mistake by
agreeing to his two years of the time-bound proposal. Mildly and modestly they too sent messages to leave it at that and close down the organization. He, however, by that time had his second intent grown roots. The second intent was highly noble. He wanted to save the industry by any means for the benefit of the innocent workmen, young managers, the ancillary units dependent on this unit and families of all those. He suffered a lot of humiliation but stuck to his plan to be implemented.

Gradually all unrests died down. People understood that he is doing it for the present as well as the long term benefits of the people and families dependent on their very job and survival. The majority of people supported him. And after three years of a long fight against corruption and fight against selfish and vested interest holder persons finally, the unit came into the path of showing stability.

So the path to stability and prosperity is always passed through a difficult and seemingly impossible stretches which always appear formidable and laden with threats. Someone somewhere takes the responsibilities of these hardships. He suffers the turbulent weather. He is the one who accepts all the curses for people’s misunderstandings. But ultimately it is the same people who get the chance to live peacefully and with pride and prosperity after he is gone. Persons who make such things happen by sacrificing their own peace of mind are great. Common people come to sing their glories after they are long gone.

That unit now is the only profitable unit of the entire organization. It could have died 16 years back with ignominy but today it is doing business with profits.

The turbulence today we are seeing in our country India is a macro form of what the earlier said organization experienced 16 years before. There is a visionary and well-chosen government that is doing all good things for the nation. Say Triple Talaq, say abrogation of Article 370, says CAA, says CAB; all these are very tough decisions taken by the Shri Narendra Modi Government who themselves have put their own future at stake. But still the duo Shri Modi and Shri Shah are bent on doing amendments. Because they know the dismal future of India ahead unless certain bills are implemented. Like that reformer, these two respected and visionary leaders are now facing the curses and wraths of many selfish and ill-informed people. But the duo is unfazed because they have to take India to a better future. They are determined to make India and every Indian safe, happy, and prosperous. They are on a path to make India better than any other developed country. So the present turbulences have to and need to be tide over by all means. Our PM Shri Modi, as well as our HM Shri Amit Shah, is fighting against all odds to keep India safe and prosperous.

Please come out of all narrow and short term benefits. Students’ good or bad, students from any institutes including JNU and JMI are funded by taxpayers’ money. Students have almost zero contribution on the economic growth of the nation and hence they better be refrained from advising the elected government who is democratically elected by the taxpayers. Since students do not earn they have no moral rights to enter into the national policies and procedures.

Let we support Shri Narendra Modi Jee and Shri Amit Shah, Jee, for a better and safer India.

  1. Yes. And this is very correctly practiced in homoeophathy. Also a lot of rigorous trainings are provided to discipline cadets in military.

  2. Sir,
I can definitely say, The characters and events of the story discussed above are not fictional. I strongly believe that, they have some relation to reality. Rather I would say, that was your life's story, which is very inspiring.

And for our government, I would like to say that this government is extracting gold from soil (from where gold is originally comes) and not from potatoes. 😷
