लम्हे: Flashbacks of moments in one Monday evening

Sitting in the armchair in the lounge and sipping the hot coffee I was enjoying nature's showering gentle raindrops from the cloudy sky into the carpet of lush green grasses. The lazy hour flashed back some incidents.

I jotted down these experiences today morning and sharing these with you all, my fraternity of earthmovers.

These incidents are related to explosives manufacturing and thus you will be able to relate these and maybe these will tickle your funny bone.

Take these in the lighter spirit. Just enjoy and forget. At the same time, please bear with me if you find these stale.

Observations of actions and persons help build or destroy beliefs and learning systematically. An SME explosive pump truck operator with keen observations of the practices of top-loading of blastholes by his blasting supervisor systematically made him follow the incorrect practice of top charging of blastholes as the correct method, contrary to the SOP of down the hole charging.

*Non-communication of hazards made a group of operators tap the business ends of the crimped detonators to bring the lot-of-25 numbers on the working table. The intention was to keep them aligned in the bunch of 25 detonators.

*The inattention of the supervisor made operators of a particular shift to stir the PETN-TNT mix manually before putting them into booster cells.

*The habit of supplying plastic reels to many small and QC-devoid companies made one of the manufacturers to remain ignorant of the static hazards that will be arising in the detonating cord manufacturing plants. Upon rejection by one of the quality conscious companies, the supplier of the plastic reels could not appreciate the meaning of the anti-static polymers.

*   The production in-charge of a manufacturing organization did not get convinced to the point that variations in the color of plastic reels (meant for detonating cord) will cause dissatisfaction amongst the customers. For the production in-charge color of the reels is not a functional parameter, and hence may be ignored.
